THE ROLE:

Our legal team in Calgary is looking for a dynamic and well-rounded senior professional with a proven track record of success, excellent communication skills, and a passion for delivering outstanding results.
Reporting directly to the Director of Legal & Joint Venture, you will play a vital role within our organization. Your expertise will be instrumental in providing practical and timely legal, commercial, and strategic support to diverse groups and help PETRONAS Canada reach our ambitious goals.
HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE:
Integrate with client groups to assist with a wide range of commercial matters (procurement processes, contract negotiations, transactions…etc.), intellectual property and internal governance matters
Manage litigation files and work closely with stakeholders to effectively resolve disputes
Create and enhance governance to align with internal requirements and industry best practices, including collaborating with PETRONAS Corporate Headquarters in Kuala Lumpur
Retain, instruct and manage external counsel
Train client groups to effectively tackle business needs and mitigate risk
Engage as a dynamic and collaborative member of the PETRONAS Canada legal team, actively contributing to the organization's success
WHAT YOU BRING:
Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or a Juris Doctor (JD) degree
Member in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta
Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, including experience as in-house counsel
Working knowledge of the energy industry to provide credible advice and support to client groups
Strong relationship building skills to become a trusted advisor for various business groups with different needs, timelines and levels of legal sophistication
Possess a strong working knowledge of general contracting, commercial transactions, procurement, intellectual property and governance matters
Agile and creative mindset to deliver timely, practical, and fit for purpose solutions
Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to express legal concepts clearly and persuasively verbally and in writing
