The Population Health Branch is seeking a highly motivated, dedicated and flexible individual to support public health surveillance for the Ministry of Health. This position is responsible for the management and analysis of vital statistics (birth and death) and administrative health data for surveillance and research purposes. Reporting to the Manager, Surveillance, you will work collaboratively with the research and provincial chronic disease epidemiologists to conduct surveillance and epidemiologic investigations relating to chronic diseases, injuries, mortality, birth, and population health status. This will include:
- Monitoring, validating and assessing vital statistics data;
- Preparing descriptive statistical analyses to assist in ongoing monitoring of mortality, birth, immunization coverage, injury, and chronic diseases;
- Preparing tables and graphs for formal epidemiological reports; and
- Developing annual and ad hoc epidemiological reports.
The level and depth of skills and knowledge required for this position typically would be attained through a graduate degree in epidemiology, biostatistics or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience. Previous experience in health database use, data quality assurance, and epidemiological analyses and reporting in a government setting would be an asset.
