Fairstone Financial Inc., a subsidiary of Fairstone Bank of Canada, is looking for a Paralegal or law clerk with relevant experience in corporate/commercial, banking, licensing and litigation management; you will be a key member of the in-house legal team. Reporting to the Director, Legal Affairs, your responsibilities will include legal research, preparing corporate filings, and tracking, monitoring and reporting on litigation matters. You are a self-starter by nature looking for the next big challenge and have the ability to work in a fast-paced, high-energy environment.
Responsibilities:

Conducting (i) legal research; and (ii) providing operational legal support to the Fairstone branch network, under the supervision of in house counsel;

Organizing, tracking, monitoring and preparing reports on litigation:

Assisting in preparation of corporate filings;

Handling administrative matters as needed, including the management of legal notices;

Accountable for scheduled workload as well as other special projects and duties assigned by members of the Legal Affairs team.
Qualifications:

Paralegal or law clerk certification required;

1-3 years of experience in (i) an in-house legal department or (ii) a combination of law firm and in-house legal department;

Experience working in banking and financial institutions will be considered an asset;

Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook;

Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Bilingualism (English and French), written and spoken, will be considered an asset;

Extremely well-organized (including, but not limited to, attention to detail and accuracy, an aptitude for figures, the ability to work under pressure, and handle multiple projects/assignments concurrently);

Detail-oriented with an ability to work on confidential and/or sensitive matters with professionalism and discretion;

Highly motivated, energetic and enthusiastic self-starter;
