About the Role
We are seeking a candidate who can apply their GIS expertise to proactively seek out, acquire, and process datasets for use by a broad range of Avenza Maps users. The candidate should be comfortable handling large quantities of geospatial data, normalizing metadata from multiple sources, and styling data layers to meet the needs of users ranging from recreationalists to professionals collecting field data and surveying. Being able to effectively liaise with data providers and our internal teams to help deliver high-quality, data-driven products is the top priority.
Responsibilities
- Identify, assess, and gather existing data sets from various sources for use in mobile mapping applications
- Create high-quality basemap products based on established cartographic standards and effective visualization practices
- Edit and manipulate existing datasets for upload to GIS web application
- Provide broad geospatial data and analytics expertise and contribute to the advancement of a data and analytics culture in the organization.
- Identify opportunities and provide technical leadership to enrich data available to the company
- Apply data processing rigour and automation in support of data acquisition and maintenance requirements
- Develop custom data products conforming to specifications defined by business needs
- Provide technical guidance on business solution development projects including requirement gathering, process mapping, design, data migration, integration, testing, training, and documentation.
Requirements
On top of any additional internal requirements we already seek, the applicant should have:
- 2-3 years experience in GIS Data Analyst role or similar
- Familiarity with CartoDB, Amazon AWS, ESRI and similar tools
- Knowledge of data acquisition and handling best practices
- Familiarity with GIS data collection and integrity best practices
- Design skills and cartographic styling experience would be an asset
