Job Description
Reporting to the Financial Controller, the Senior Corporate Accountant is recognized as a subject matter expert within the department, they have a proven ability to influence across teams and projects within the department. They will support business partners by providing sound accounting and financial guidance, delivering high quality services in an efficient manner, and establishing analytical support. They will be required to perform a variety of accounting functions independently and contribute to the development of the department strategy. SSENSE is a fast-evolving space, therefore the candidate must be comfortable with ambiguity, be proactive, and be a creative problem-solver with strong financial knowledge.
Responsibilities
Operations - 50%

Monitor monthly expenses and alert business partners and the Finance team of any unusual activities and/or variances

Implement streamlined work processes and recommend procedures to ensure maximum efficiency and accuracy

Assess internal controls, including risk assessments and reviews of risk areas
-
Collaborate closely with the other departments to liaise and share information in order to make strong holistic recommendations to stakeholders
-
Drive the execution of analytical support to dissect business data, identifying key trends, obstacles, insights and recommend a variety of solutions to department leadership

Lead the review of general ledger activity to ensure appropriate allocation of revenues and expenses, and variance analysis ensuring information is accurate and clear

Anticipate internal and/or external business challenges and recommend improvements

Solve unique and complex accounting problems

Analyse complex financial transactions resulting in insights, recommendations and accurate reporting so the business is able to forecast where it will land against its established targets

Lead on projects to support the accounting department with additional tasks as needed ensuring business objectives are met in a timely manner
Reporting - 40%

Lead financial reporting regarding OB shipments, Revenue recognition, COGS actualization and balance sheet inventory reporting in collaboration with the FP&A counterpart for the department and department leadership

Deliver on VAT accounting entries and ledgers including preparation of UK and EU VAT returns, EU sales list and intrastat report ensuring accuracy and completeness against established timelines

Define and execute new optimised processes related to EU VAT registration & accounting for intra-EU movement of goods (EU 3PL) to ensure compliance

Own cash flow reporting & monthly cash injection request in alignment with department leadership and the assigned FP&A partner

Lead monthly reconciliations of balance sheet accounts including accrued liabilities, provisions and inter-company accounts resulting in accurate and timely updates

Lead overall reconciliation of data between operating, accounting, reporting and other systems to ensure accuracy

Lead the preparation of monthly and quarterly consolidated financial statements, and departmental reporting in collaboration with the FP&A partner and department leadership

Deliver key accounting reports focused on accruals, reconciliations and analysis to business leadership in a timely and efficient manner

Actively participate in audits by providing required supporting documentation and explanations

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance or a related field
-
Professional designation (CPA / CA, CGA, CMA)

A minimum of 5 years experience in a similar role
-
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
-
Familiarity with accounting software (e.g., SAP), an asset
-
Strong English and French written and spoken communication skills

Experience with Enterprise ERP

Experience with Production / Sourcing / Manufacturing an asset

Experience working with UK and EU VAT
