JSM Law is currently recruiting for an in-office condominium Lawyer/Construction Lawyer to join our team. The position is a full-time permanent position.
Responsibilities for the Lawyer include, but are not limited to:
- Drafting, reviewing, amending and updating condominium documentation including disclosure documents, terms of agreement of purchase and sale, and closing documents;
- Experience in construction deficiencies, Tarion warranties and claims involving developers;
- Experience with the development and operation of commercial leasing while representing major developers, retailers, financial institutions, lenders or pension funds;
- Ability to provide legal opinions and interpretations of condominium documents, the Condominium Act and other legislation;
- Registering transactions and documents on Teraview;
- Remain current on all laws affecting condominium corporations;
- Experience in by-law and city regulations;
- Experience in pre-construction and post-construction purchases;
- Experience acting for contractors, developers, re-sellers, purchases, real estate agents and brokers,
- Turnover disputes;
- Other duties as required.
Qualifications for Lawyer
- J.D. or LL.B. with exceptional academic credentials;
- License to practice law in Ontario;
- Member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario;
- 3+ years of experience at a law firm, and basic understanding of condominium law concepts;
- Interest, expertise and demonstrated previous experience in condominium law;
- Experience in Construction and exposure to Real Estate Litigation is also an asset;
- Exceptional written and verbal communication and negotiation skills;
- Exceptional time management, organizational and prioritization skills;
- Excellent business judgment and high level of professionalism;
- Ability to work independently and strong work ethics;
- Excellent time management and organizational skills; and,
- Flexibility to occasionally work overtime.
