SUMMARY – Accountant Junior
Shift: Monday to Friday; 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
Term: Until approximately March 25, 2024.
The TransX Group of Companies has an exciting opportunity for a Junior Accountant to join the financial team in our Winnipeg Office. Reporting to the Controller, this individual will work closely with the rest of the accounting team and our Operations team. They will be responsible for preparing monthly account reconciliations and assisting on the preparation of monthly financial and operational reports. This individual will be responsible for and contribute to the month end process with revenue accruals, ensuring accuracy and completeness through analysis. They will review and analyze accounts, recommend, and implement solutions to improve our monthly account reconciliation process.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Financial Reporting
-
Analysis and allocation of revenue and expenses as assigned

Analysis of account transactions in TMW, TMT and Great Plains to ensure coding is accurate and correct postings as needed

Preparation and posting of daily, weekly or monthly transactions into Great Plains
-
Assist and prepare accruals with estimates for monthly Financial reporting to CN
-
Preparation and reporting of requested variance analysis and impact statements to report to the supervisor
-
Initiate and assist with improvements in reporting needs/requirements from information systems
-
Balance Sheet & Income Statement Account Reconciliations/ Analysis
-
Responsibility and reconciliation of various Balance Sheet accounts as assigned -prepare necessary correcting entries
-
Prepare and report revenue and/or expense details to senior management and other stakeholders
-
Miscellaneous Tasks
-
Ad hoc analysis as required
-
Train new Accounting Associates with basics of TMW, TMT and Great Plains
-
Liaise with others regarding finance and accounting functions
-
Continuously review processes and recommend any improvements necessary for improved efficiencies or accuracy
Education
-
Working toward a professional accounting designation (CPA -Canada) is preferred
-
A graduate degree in Business Commerce is highly desirable, but certificate programs are acceptable
-
A minimum of 1-3 years of office experience with a preference in an accounting environment
Experience

General knowledge of Accounting Policies and Practices within Canada and USA

Knowledge of general business practices

Strong organizational skills including time management and planning

Effective communication skills with the ability to liaise with all levels within the organization

Possess unquestionable integrity, maturity, and a team player

Strong attention to detail

Strong proficiency in current Accounting Software and MS Office suite applications with advanced skills in Microsoft Excel
