Our firm is looking for a Paralegal to join our Financial Services team in Vancouver for an 18 month contract!
The Paralegal, Financial Services, is a key team member, responsible for assisting lawyers and clients with banking and regional, national and international financing related transactions, including but not limited to commercial lending transactions, preparation and filing of security documentation, registrations, and due diligence searches that fall under applicable jurisdiction.
An individual who is responsive, resourceful, and possesses a professional attitude with great client service skills, and who manages assignments and priorities to ensure deadlines are met and files are continuously and consistently moving forward, is key to this role and paramount to the firm achieving success for its clients.
Roles and Responsibilities
Drafting and Revising
- Perform a variety of legal and administrative duties supporting lawyers and clients across Canada with banking and financing matters, and will be primarily be tasked to attend to registrations, amendments and discharges and post-registration searches that fall under local jurisdiction.
- Conduct due diligence searches that fall under local jurisdiction, including PPR, Register of Personal and Movable Real Rights, Bank Act Register, Superintendent of Bankruptcy Register, Litigation Register (bankruptcy division only), Labour & Employment, court house, WCB, Spiin, etc., as may be applicable, and drafting reports summarizing the search results obtained from the above searches.
- Publishing notices of intention to give security under Section 427 of the Bank Act and publishing certificates of releases at the Bank Act Register.
- Drafting and revising banking and financing related documents, including security documents.
Preparing and Assisting
- Assist with fee quotes for financial services projects.
Liaising and Communicating
- Liaise with clients, lawyers, students and public officials and mentor [intermediate and] junior paralegals.
Research
- Coordinating corporate, security and litigation searches with our offices across Canada.
- Research and interpret legal and technical procedures, statutes, and regulations applicable to area of practice.
Miscellaneous
- Other maintenance tasks and filings.
What you'll bring:
- Completion of a Paralegal Certificate or Diploma or equivalent.
- A minimum of three years of experience a paralegal in Corporate M&A within a law firm environment.
- A solid understanding of current legal terminology and excellent knowledge of federal and provincial corporate statutes and corporate procedures.
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Professional communication skills with clients, lawyers and team members
- Excellent multi-tasking abilities
- Proven ability to manage a large workload volume, competing priorities and demands
- Sound ability to adhere to strict deadlines
- Strong ability to problem solve with minimal supervision
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, EnAct/Alf and Aderant
- Ability to work independently, take initiative and follow instructions with minimal supervision
- Ability to work well within a team environment
