Our Edmonton office is currently looking for a legal assistant in the area of litigation/labour and employment law. The successful candidate will work in a team environment with other legal assistants to support our labour and employment and litigation lawyers.
Responsibilities include:
Reviewing and organizing file materials
Helping prepare and co-ordinate hearings/arbitrations and trials in various forums
Drafting correspondence
Preparing court materials
Co-ordinating service and filing of proceedings with various tribunals/forums and courts
Organizing documents and maintaining an electronic filing system
Handling billing, AR collection, file opening/closing and related accounting matters
Managing the calendars of various labour and employment lawyers
Providing additional administrative assistance and general office duties
Qualifications include:
Graduate of a recognized legal assistant program (equivalencies will be considered)
Five to 10 years of experience in an active civil litigation and/or employment law practice
Advanced computer skills including in Word, Excel, Outlook and document management software
Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail; ability to prioritize work to meet deadlines
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrated initiative and ability to work independently and as part of a team
Client-focused approach and commitment to providing exceptional service to internal and external clients
