Reporting to Manager, Breeding program Lab & Growth Facilities, this position is responsible for supporting and managing greenhouse projects through effective cross functional collaboration with various stakeholders to accomplish project goals. In addition to supporting projects, the successful candidate will participate in daily greenhouse activities such as plant preparation, seeding, transplanting, leaf-tissue sampling, plant maintenance, pest control, watering, bagging, debagging, dry down, and harvest.
What you will do:

Demonstrate a strong commitment to Nutrien’s Safety, Health, & Environment (SH&E) program by assisting the Facilities Manager and other team members in maintaining safety compliance as per Company policies.

Manage assigned projects to meet all data, seed quality, and seed production quantity requirements in the timeline specified, while demonstrating the high level of attention to detail essential to successfully execute all assigned projects from planting through to harvest.
- Ensure optimal plant growth through plant health monitoring, diagnosis & treatment of suboptimal plant conditions, pro-active control of pests, and maximization of seed quality & yield.

Follow quality assurance and quality control procedures including separation of plant types, traits, and herbicide platforms, as well as order of entry to guarantee quality pure seed production in a high-throughput environment.

Effectively follow defined Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) including:

Marker assisted breeding procedures

Trait introgression procedures
- Nutrient and watering procedures

Provide general plant maintenance including pot & soil preparation, planting, watering, thinning, staking, bagging, de-bagging, dry down management, and harvesting.

Manage pest control using sound Integrated Pest Management strategies according to Nutrien Ag Solutions guidelines and Pesticide Application Regulations.

Support drafting of new SOPs and participate in maintaining existing SOPs.
- Engage in cross-functional collaboration to help other groups (including the field, pathology, and lab) as workloads and schedules allow.

What you will bring:

Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in Agriculture, Biology, or other related field; experience may be considered in lieu of education.

Working technical knowledge and experience with plant breeding strategies, trait introgression, hybrid development, and pedigree breeding in a greenhouse or growth chamber environment required.

Technical knowledge and experience with plant production under controlled environments (greenhouse/growth chamber) including automation, sanitation, and troubleshooting required.

Positive attitude contributing to a cross-functional team with open and honest communication required.

3+ years of extensive greenhouse experience preferred.

Working knowledge of doubled haploids and molecular breeding preferred.

Proficiency in relational databases, Brassica, and MS Office preferred.

Pesticide Application certificate preferred.
