The Maintenance Assistant will take direction from the Maintenance Supervisor in performing preventative maintenance and day to day maintenance duties in all production departments in accordance with plant policies and procedures in compliance with health and safety policies.
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Assists in troubleshooting and repairing mechanical systems and equipment in the plant as required;
· Assists the Maintenance Supervisor with upkeep of the buildings, facilities, and external property, including conducting minor repairs;
· Assists Maintenance Supervisor with the set-up, preservation and updating maintenance programs;
· Performs regular inspections/preventative maintenance tasks, such as checking, cleaning and repairing equipment to detect and prevent potential problems on a wide range of machines on the production line to reduce down-time;
· Escalates major mechanical concerns to the Maintenance Supervisor and/or Production Supervisors.
· Backs-up Maintenance Supervisor during absences, vacations, etc. to ensure continuous operations;
· Meets maintenance scheduling deadlines with the assistance of the Maintenance Supervisor to ensure minimal down-time due to production needs;
· Develops a good understanding of the production lines and able to identify permanent solutions to maintenance fixes;
· Develops strong relationships with Supervisors and Plant workers;
· Maintains a clean and safe work environment;
· Maintains controlled and monitored inventory system for the department in-regards to tools and supplies;
· Communicates maintenance status, escalates issues and prioritizes repairs accordingly;
· Acts in accordance with Vinylbilt Health and Safety standards including Lock Out Tag Out procedures and WHMIS;
· Other duties as required.
Qualifications:
· Flexible with schedule to accommodate production. This may involve working on weekends or after production shifts if needed;
· Basic knowledge and background of electrical controls, hydraulics, pneumatics, electronics and mechanical aptitude with a strong ability to learn;
· Excellent organizational/multitasking/time management skills with disciplined solid diagnostic skills, coordination, prioritization and follow-up abilities;
· Strong sense of initiative and team-oriented contributor who is an effective, clear communicator;
· Able to work in a fast-paced environment and keep up to date with production schedules;
· Basic computer skills (MS Office);
· Manual dexterity required for operating machinery.
