Job Description
Our corporate team responsible for overseeing our Toronto property accounting teams is looking for an experienced energetic accountant looking to grow their skills and knowledge. Someone who will develop relationships with the Property Accounting teams, Asset Management, Corporate Accounting, and co-owners to assist in timely and accurate financial reporting for Toronto.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Month-end / quarter-end closing and reporting

Grow your leadership and mentorship skills through timely review and feedback of monthly work by the Property Accounting teams.

Participating in the monthly property close documentation package review and communications. Ensure controls are operating effectively throughout the year. Any deficiencies are communicated to the Regional Controller and dealt with in a timely and methodical manner.

Participate in the monthly and quarterly reporting requirements of the co-owners, including cash distributions, financial results, and forecasts.

Assist in the monthly capital forecasting of our property capital projects.

Complete bank reconciliations for our corporate entities.

Financial Reporting and audits (internal and external reporting)

Work with our property and corporate team to provide timely information to our external and internal auditors and the accounting teams. Offer guidance and assistance to the accounting teams on audit deliverables.

Timely and accurate preparation and submission of legal entity financial statements and audit supporting documents.

Track audit progress and communicate issues or delays to the Regional Controller.

Budgets

Work with Property Accountants and Asset Management in preparing the annual property budget materials.

Prepare variance explanations and trend analysis to facilitate Corporate Accounting’s review of property budgets.

Other
-
Collaborate in the development of training and education materials to improve our Property Accountant skills.

Fulfill ad-hoc financial analysis from Asset Management and/or Corporate Accounting.

Assist or take leadership role where necessary on any special projects or transactions in the year.
QUALIFICATIONS
SERVICE / PERSONAL SKILLS:
Must be service oriented with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written. You must be a team player, mature, outgoing and diplomatic with people. Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects or tasks simultaneously are essential for this role. You are analytical and very detail oriented with advanced problem-solving capabilities.
EXPERIENCE & TECHNICAL SKILLS:

Minimum of 2-3 years’ experience in general Accounting, Public Accounting, or Financial Analysis

Excellent attention to detail and follow through

Knowledge of lease terminology and the different types of leases is an asset

Knowledge of Excel, Word, and Power Point

Exposure to Yardi is considered an asset
EDUCATION/DESIGNATIONS/LICENSES:

University Degree or College Diploma in an accounting related field of study

Pursuing a professional accounting designation such as CPA or a CPA member in good standing

Accounting and/or financial analysis knowledge
