Job Description
The Corporate Accountant, Finance will join the Finance team within the Brookfield Reinsurance group, located in our head office in Downtown Toronto. Reporting to the Manager of Finance, the Corporate Accountant will be responsible for maintaining the accounting records of a group of companies within the BNRE Corporate structure. This role provides the foundation, guidance and exposure towards a challenging and dynamic career.
Responsibilities:

Take ownership over corporate entities for which you are responsible for completing tasks that include the following:

Daily preparation and recording of journal entries;

Monthly bank reconciliations;

Monthly Investment Accounting reconciliation;

Researching, analyzing and preparing accounting memos and fund flows for large or complex transactions;

Annual legal entity financial statements for tax return purposes;

Assist in preparation of quarterly and annual corporate MD&A and financial statement note disclosures.
Additional responsibilities

Compile information on audit queries;

Communicate with various Brookfield business groups to reconcile intercompany transactions;

Assist in the preparation of quarterly and annual financial results and reporting packages;

Various special duties as assigned by senior personnel.
Requirements:
-
Two to four (2-4) years of progressive work experience in an accounting or auditing function
-
Experience with SEC and/or OSC public company reporting requirements for companies reporting under US GAAP or IFRS;

Experience in the Insurance industry and / or investment accounting is an asset (either directly in the industry or through public accounting experience)

A recognized or pursuing professional accounting designation (CPA)

Strong financial systems experience, including advanced Excel skills

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Demonstrated leadership ability and is a team player, willing to always support the team
