The Lands Branch is seeking an energetic, detail oriented and forward-thinking individual to fill a key position as a Geographic Information System (GIS) Analyst. In this position, you will play a key role in the ministry’s Woodland Caribou Program through the design and configuration of GIS maps, applications and spatial analysis.
As a GIS Analyst, you will:
- Use maps and data sets for spatial analysis to support decision-making;
- Manage and analyze geospatial datasets, including remote sensing imagery;
- Actively create and design products that present complex analytics in a summarized form;
- Assist in the development and support a variety of desktop, mobile and web GIS applications in both on-premises and cloud environments;
- Conduct quality assessments on datasets to ensure standards are met for inclusion in a government-wide enterprise service; and
- Collaborate with fellow GIS analysts to develop new approaches to meeting program needs.
What you will need:
- A working knowledge of GIS-related methodologies, spatial analytics, data manipulation and data management;
- Experience working with remote sensing data and associated software tools and programs.
- The ability to build and maintain co-operative and collaborative relationships with colleagues, team members, business clients, external stakeholders and service providers; and
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, an ability to be attentive to detail, an open communication style, engages with a community of practice and sees value in sharing information.
Typically, the knowledge for this position would be attained through a degree in Geography, Environmental Studies, Geomatics, Computer Science, or related discipline with courses directly related to GIS. A minimum of two years of work experience using GIS, with an emphasis on using Esri products including ArcGIS Pro, Portal for ArcGIS and ArcGIS online is also typical, although an equivalent combination of education, training and experience may also be considered.
